ANCCS Gives You Everything You Need to Succeed!
AT ANCCS, the teachers always take their time to make sure everyone understands the things that are being taught. They have patience and never make anyone feel bad for not understanding something. Everything they do comes from a place of love and endearment.A year ago, if you told me that school would end up being my safe place, I wouldn’t have believed you. Like many kids, school has always been just another place I had to go to- another place I was forced to go to. That thought worsened when I started attending my previous school. At that school, the teachers and staff didn’t care if you needed help with anything, fights were a normal daily occurrence, and you would get made fun of for every little thing you did. However, a year ago I made a decision. A decision that would change my life forever. That decision was moving to Alaska Native Cultural Charter School or ANCCS as we all call it.
The reason I chose to move schools was to have a better learning environment, ANCCS gave me that along with so much more. Everyone is so caring and always makes sure you have everything you need to succeed. The teachers always take their time to make sure everyone understands the things that are being taught. They have patience and never make anyone feel bad for not understanding something. Everything they do comes from a place of love and endearment. When walking the halls, I have this feeling of security and safenesses, a feeling that I am so grateful for. In the morning, I’m always greeted with smiling faces and people telling me to have a good day. This always makes me feel better and starts my day off on a good note. Even though I’ve only been at ANCCS for a little less than a year, everyone welcomed me quickly into their family. That’s what ANCCS is…a family. No matter who you are, where you come from, you’ll always be included, and you will always feel like you belong. Before coming here, I had no idea who I was or what I wanted to be in the future, I felt like I was ordinary, but ANCCS quickly got me on the path to know myself. Through our weekly Yupik classes, the stories and teachings shared by elders, and a great support system, I finally got on track to find out who I am and want to be. ANCCS has changed my outlook on education and on my future. My teachers have taught me that I am not simply ordinary, they have taught me that I, like everyone else, have a purpose. They showed me that school doesn’t have to be a place you dread going to. School can be a place you love going to and a place where you grow. I know that now, thanks to the wonderful people at ANCCS. I will forever have these teachings and values with me, and I will always be on the right path thanks to them. Even though going to high school is so much scarier than I would like to admit, knowing that I am still welcome at ANCCS makes me so happy. Thank you ANCCS, for absolutely everything you’ve done for me and so many others. I will never forget you. |
