WELCOME TO Mitzy Bolaños

BY AERC

Picture
Commissioners and Staff welcomed AERC’s new Executive Director, Mitzi Bolaños Anderson, to the team. Mitzi’s family immigrated from Cuba to the United States and she was raised in Miami, Florida. She is fluent in Spanish and has a passion for public service. Mitzi’s career path has provided her with leadership experience in both the state and federal government, as well as nonprofit organizations.

She has an extensive background in civil rights law and mediation and has previously worked on diversity and inclusion initiatives as both an AmeriCorps VISTA and an attorney. Mitzi is excited to carry out AERC’s mission to enforce federal and municipal anti-discrimination laws and provide equal opportunity to all people in Anchorage.

Mitzy has 4 rescued dogs and volunteers on the Anchorage Animal Control Advisory Board to help improve animal welfare in our city. She is the proud mother of a 3-month-old son and along with her husband, plans to raise him bilingual.  Her son already loves the mountains of Alaska.
