We started publishing 8 years ago and now, more than ever, stand committed to continue informing, educating and uniting.
The month of May is a very special month for us, as we gather to celebrate our eighth year of helping Alaska’s Latino community to be informed about national, international, and local issues, educated with access to opportunities to improve their quality of life, and united and ready to make an impact in the broader community.
Therefore, we want to use this occasion to thank all the writers, editors, and advertisers who have collaborated so that we continue our mission. Yet, this celebration is not only about us. It’s about celebrating the whole Latino community in our state and its continuous resilience and determination, which has become essential to ensure that Alaska is a special place to all.
Over the last few months, we have witnessed and reported on the increasing visibility and impact of the Latino community in our state. Through our concerted efforts and unwavering dedication, we have made successful campaigns to promote affordable healthcare and internet connectivity.Just now we are in the midst of a successful campaign to promote civic participation. This effort has been simultaneous with the increasing presence of Latinos in various spheres of our society. From social service organizations employing more and more bilingual personnel, to radio stations, with the new program Alaska Radio Latina on KORN-LP, or podcasts like Radio Sembranza. We continue to add new Latino businesses throughout Alaska, some of which we are happy to feature in our monthly editions. Our voices are resonating louder than ever before.
Latinos are leaving an indelible mark in every sector of our economy and society. Whether it’s within governmental offices, banks, hospitals, schools, construction companies, or through the provision of essential services for children and the elderly, our community serves as a driving force for economic growth and social progress. It has been a great honor for us to have covered so many amazing stories over the last year and find ourselves hopeful that this progress is just the beginning of many years of exciting and innovative contributions.
However, our progress is not confined to the Latino community alone. It is heartening to observe a growing trend of inclusivity across different ethnic groups. Under its new ownership, Anchorage Korean News has been creating bridges between Korean communities and the rest of the state. There are also active efforts in Pacific Islander communities to translate vital information for their communities. Furthermore, there is a newfound appreciation for Alaska’s native indigenous languages, symbolizing a broader embrace of diversity and cultural richness in our state. All our efforts make Alaska a more welcoming place and position it to grow firmly to a bright future. So, as we reflect on our achievements over the last year, we stand committed to fostering an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and empowerment. Moreover, we stand committed to continue reporting and providing high quality news and analyses so that together, we can continue to break down barriers, amplify diverse voices, and build bridges of opportunity for all. We keepgoing!
