UA offers scholarships for Latinos
Did you know that the University of Alaska offers two scholarships per year to Hispanic students? Meet Agustín, who, through Enlaces, was recommended to receive a scholarship last year. For more information about this scholarship, contact Professor Daniel Darrow, [email protected]Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you born and raised? How many years have you been in Alaska?
I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, but I consider myself Tijuanense. All my childhood was spent in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. I grew up there and Tijuana fed my family and me. What do you study in our university? What year are you with your studies? You attend UAA, don’t you? When did you start studying here? I am studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage and would like to major in High Voltage Systems. I’ve been in college for three years. Why did you choose UA over other universities? It is a university that provides you with many opportunities, and there is definitely a lot of future if you know how to look for it and are willing to ask. What is the academic subject that interests you the most? Do you have a favorite teacher? I really enjoy the subjects of Electrical Engineering, especially the subjects that have to do with high voltage. I would have to mention two professors, Professor Anthony Gaussion of the University of Alaska Matanuska, and Professor Mohammed Heidari Kapourchali of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage. What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy spending time with my family and when I can, I play soccer. What are your plans after graduating? What profession do you want to pursue? I would like to get experience in my field of profession and when the time is right, start my own company. How did you find out about the scholarship? Thanks to Professor Daniel Darrow of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. How did the scholarship help you? It was a great help to lower the price of my tuition. Do you recommend it for other students? Do you think it’s worth applying for? Of course, it is definitely worth it! |
