THE BENEFITS OF YOGA

BY JOAN RYAN ESTAY

Yoga is a great way to increase flexibility, gain strength, energy and reduce stress. This system of physical and mental practices originated in India roughly 5,000 years ago. A regular yoga practice improves all the systems in the body: skeletal, muscular, nervous, digestive, integumentary (skin), circulatory, respiratory, endocrine and reproductive.

Having a regular yoga practice helps you become aware of your body and your mind, as you learn to relax, breathe and listen to your body.

YWCA Alaska has partnered with DEHA yoga and Lululemon to bring women an evening of relaxation and restoration by offering a class called Gentle Restore.  It is a slower paced class that provides all the benefits of a yoga experience in a nurturing and healing way.

The class is perfect for all levels and for ages 18 and up. All mats and yoga props are provided. The yoga class is every Tuesday from 5:30pm – 6:30pm at YWCA Alaska, 324 E. 5th Ave. Anchorage, AK 99501, and a $5 donation is suggested.

This class is accessible to everyone regardless of fitness level or physical challenges.
Please visit ywcaak.org or the YWCA events page on Facebook for more information.
