Alaska’s Latino Community in Numbers

by tu voz importa

With nearly 50,000 Latinos in Alaska, the community is growing, contributing, and has the power to transform the state with
its voice and its vote.

In Alaska, the Latino community has found a place to grow, work, and dream. Today, nearly 50,000 Latinos call this state home. These are not just numbers. These are families, entrepreneurs, students, leaders, and workers who, through their efforts, are weaving an essential part of Alaska’s present and future. Each personal story is a thread that, alongside thousands of others, strengthens the social, economic, and cultural fabric of the state.

The growth has been remarkable. Between 2010 and 2020, the Latino population increased by 26.9 percent, a rate that far exceeds the state average. This momentum not only reflects a young and dynamic community, but also a historic opportunity to organize, participate, and make decisions that will shape the course of our state. Every time a Latino in Alaska gets involved, whether as a volunteer, candidate, or voter, democracy is strengthened and the representation of our experiences and aspirations grows.

The strength of this community is measured not only by its numbers but also by its daily contributions. In Anchorage, where more than 26,000 of them live, Latinos work in hospitals, schools, businesses, and public offices. From those teaching in multilingual classrooms to those launching businesses and creating jobs, their contribution is constant and visible, proving that diversity is not just a slogan but a reality that drives the city forward.

In the civic sphere, the potential is immense. More than 33,000 Latinos in Alaska are eligible to participate in voting. That power, used consciously and collectively, can move mountains.

Participation is not only a right. It is a tool to build the future we want, one where our voices are not limited to statistics but directly influence the policies and decisions that affect our lives.

The history of Latinos in Alaska is one of a community that came to stay, that has learned to adapt to extreme weather and great distances, and that continues to grow with its eyes set on the future. The numbers show presence and potential. The challenge now is to turn those numbers into sustained action.

We are here. We will continue to grow. And every time we participate, organize, and decide, we do not just make history. We change it. Because Alaska’s future is also written in Spanish, and with the conviction that our voice matters.
