Mexico’s Titular Consul in Seattle, Víctor Hugo López Ortega, took office in November 2025. He studied International Business in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, and has an outstanding career in public service. He has worked in social development and health; he served as State Delegate of the ISSSTE in Chihuahua and held management positions at the Ministry of Social Welfare. From 2018 to 2024, he coordinated migration efforts on Mexico’s northern border, collaborating with authorities and civil organizations to support vulnerable communities. This experience has allowed him to understand closely the needs of Mexican families inside and outside the country. From Seattle, his priority is to strengthen consular protection, improve services, and expand consular presence in Alaska.

The Mexican community living in Alaska faces unique challenges due to the distance, extreme weather, and working conditions that many families experience. Because of this, Consul López Ortega has paid special attention to this region.

His commitment began even before he took office as Titular Consul. When he served as Counselor, and the opportunity arose to conduct a Consulate on Wheels in Alaska, he volunteered to lead it. His objective was to get to know the territory, listen directly to the community, and understand their real needs. “We found a great and generous community, which received us with great emotion,” he shared. That day, a significant number of consular services were offered. Although there is never enough time due to high demand, the visit confirmed the importance of being close to the Mexican community in Alaska.

Based on that experience, the Consulate is evaluating new ways to strengthen its presence in the state. “There is a willingness to strengthen our presence in Alaska, and opportunities to return more frequently will be sought whenever possible.” The intention is to expand consular service opportunities while always considering the logistical and operational challenges this region presents.

In his message to the community, Consul López Ortega said: “We know the enormous effort you make every day. You are not alone. We will maintain a close relationship with the local authorities and continue to defend the rights of our fellow citizens. Our priority is to accompany you and be present in these unpredictable times.”

The Consulate of Mexico in Seattle will continue to build immediacy, trust, and support for the Mexican community in Alaska.
