Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays and a joyful New Year! As we reflect on this challenging year, let’s celebrate our resilience and unity. Like the lights that brighten our dark winter nights, together we bring hope, joy, and strength to one another in times of struggle. As the year draws to a close and the holiday season envelops us in its warm embrace, we find ourselves reflecting on the challenges and achievements that have defined this year. For many members of our community, it has been a year of perseverance and resilience, and during this holiday week is, now more than ever, important to celebrate that resilience and our community’s ability to come together.
In the dark months of winter, when the sun graces us with its presence for only a few short hours, let’s take a moment to look at one of the most noticeable characteristics of Anchorage during this time of year: the lights we adorn our homes with. This year, they are more than festive decorations, they become symbols of our resilience. They remind us that even in the most challenging times, there is always a spark of light ready to guide us forward, and even if the individual light each of us gives to the world seems small, together, combined with all the others around us, we can illuminate the night. This year, we have seen firsthand the power of unity. In the face of an incredibly tense political season, our community in Anchorage has come together to support one another, proving that the bonds we share are not easily broken. Whether it was reaching out to a neighbor in need, supporting many of the new Latino owned local businesses, or simply sharing moments of solidarity, each action contributed to the collective strength that defines the Latino community in Alaska, and remind us of the true meaning of the winter Holidays: beyond material things and celebrations, what matters is the constant striving towards togetherness. The political environment remains challenging so, as we enter this season of celebration, let us remember that hope is not just something we wait for; it is something we create together. In our everyday actions, we have the power to bring joy to others, to lift those who are struggling, and to celebrate the resilience that lies within each of us. The Holiday season serves as a reminder that no matter how difficult the year may have been, we always have the capacity to rise again, to find joy, and continue to light the way for those who may need it most. |
