Join APCA’s Free Training in the Health Sector
This past February 28, Alaska Primary Care Association celebrated 30 years of service to the community. We interviewed Jon Zasada, Policy Integration Director, to learn about the benefits of this entity. How does APCA support the healthcare industry in Alaska?
APCA and Alaska Community Health Centers provide comprehensive primary care that includes medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and vision services. It also serves as a safety net provider in many communities. APCA also administers a range of healthcare workforce development programs that support health industry employers in building and retaining their workforce and training Alaskans seeking jobs in the state’s largest industry. How many years of experience does APCA have in training programs? APCA has been building its suite of workforce training and development programs since 2018. APCA offers training programs, including pre-apprenticeships, registered apprenticeships, and Community Health Worker (CHW) programs, to provide Alaskans with the skills needed in healthcare careers. These programs help address workforce shortages, particularly in rural and remote communities, by building a pipeline of skilled professionals who can serve in critical healthcare roles. What does PATH Academy offer? APCA’s Pre-Apprenticeship Training in Healthcare (PATH) Academy is a two-week training program designed for Alaskans ages 18 and older who are interested in starting in the healthcare industry. Participants will gain valuable certifications, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR, receive Mental Health First Aid training, develop job readiness skills, and explore employment opportunities within their communities. How many students have enrolled in the training for English Language Learners? So far, APCA has enrolled 40 participants in the IET PATH program, with 13 Hispanic/Latino participants joining in the last quarter. What training does APCA currently offer to Hispanics? APCA offers all its training programs to individuals of all ethnicities and backgrounds, including Hispanic communities. Our programs, such as Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) and Dental Assistant training, are designed to be accessible and inclusive. To learn more, visit:alaskapca.org. |
