Moyce Polanco: Lives to serve
“I have always wanted to make an impact on society to support those in need.”After 30 years of service, Moyce Polanco is retiring as a Systems Administrator for the Anchorage School District’s IT department. “My dedication and effort over these three decades have been to support teachers and students, following the district’s mission to prepare students for life,” said Moyce.
Polanco arrived in Anchorage from his native Dominican Republic at the age of 18, following in the footsteps of his sister, who lived in this state. He quickly adapted to his new home and joined the United States Navy for a time. His passion was always computers, a dream that led him to the University of Alaska-Anchorage. With the help of student loans, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 1994. “By working, I was able to pay for my studies, and I also had support as a U.S. Navy veteran,” he shared. Polanco is also a senior pastor, along with his wife Sara, of the Bethel Hispanic Church of God, where he has served as a church leader for 23 years. “My mother, Elsa Polanco, was a pastor in the Dominican Republic, and I always had a calling to ministry. She was also the director of four schools. While living in Anchorage, I heard words that prophesied my destiny. With unwavering faith, I studied and obtained my ministerial credentials. The Lord instilled in me a love for the educational system,” he added. Among his pastoral activities, he advocates for Israel and religious freedom in various forums and government institutions. Additionally, he serves as a chaplain for the police and firefighters. “I have always wanted to make an impact on society to support those in need,” he explained. Polanco looks to new horizons and goals to fulfill; he has reasons to celebrate not only his retirement but also 34 years of marriage to Sara and the joy of their daughters, Sara, Raquel, and Esther, as well as their six grandchildren. |
