Nine Years Lighting Up the Way:
Sol de Medianoche Stands with You

On our ninth anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to inform,
to resist, and to build hope alongside our community.

This May marks nine years since the release of our first edition, and throughout these years we have held a clear mission: to be a voice for those who are not always heard, a beacon to help navigate uncertain times, a trusted source of Spanish-language news for Alaska’s Latino community, and a bridge to help Alaska recognize the ongoing contributions of our growing Latino population. Today, nine years later, amid one of the darkest political climates we have experienced where our community is under daily attacks and its contributions constantly questioned, that mission is not only still alive but more urgent than ever.

We know that for many Latino families, living in the United States today means walking in fear, speaking cautiously, memorizing their rights, watching what they post on social media, and working tirelessly in a difficult economic reality. We are witnessing how the attacks to our community are intensifying. From policies that criminalize migration to rhetoric that seeks to dehumanize us, what we are facing is not just a hard moment. It is a direct threat to our rights, our dignity, and our safety. And yet, even in the face of these threats, there are people who refuse to give up. Activists, educators, and community leaders who work every day to improve our quality of life and defend our rights with courage and conviction.

In this context, journalism is not just about reporting the news. It is about standing beside our people, defending them, and building bridges. That is why at Sol de Medianoche we are committed to coverage that not only informs but empowers and encourages people to use their voice to strengthen the communities they live in. We believe deeply that information is a tool of resistance, and that participation is a form of active hope. Voting, organizing, demanding accountability, learning about our rights. These are all parts of a struggle that is not fought with fear but with conviction.

Reaching our ninth year is a source of pride but also of deep gratitude. To everyone who has read us, shared our work, supported us, or trusted us with their stories, thank you. You are the heart of this project. We know the challenges will keep coming, but we are not going anywhere. Sol de Medianoche is here to stay. With your support, we will keep informing, educating, connecting, and lighting up the way today and for many years to come.
