November is Diabetes Awareness Month: Take Charge of Your Health with Free Screenings!
November is Diabetes Awareness Month, a great time to focus on your health! The Alaska Health Fair (AHF) is offering free blood sugar screenings at health fairs around the state. These screenings are a simple way to check in on your health.
Understanding your blood sugar levels is important. High blood sugar can lead to serious health problems but catching it early can make a big difference. At the health fairs, friendly volunteers are ready to help you understand your health better.
If you notice symptoms like feeling very thirsty, needing to urinate often, or feeling unusually tired, it’s a good idea to get checked. A quick blood test can help you know your risk and what steps to take next.
AHF is also providing free A1C tests for eligible individuals. This test shows your average blood sugar over the past few months, giving you valuable information about your health.
Upcoming health fairs include: - Anchorage: Nov. 16, 2024, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm at St. John Church - Fairbanks: Nov. 19, 2024, 8:00 am- 1:00 pm at Fairbanks Health Fair Office
Spanish interpretation can be arranged in advance by contacting the Health Fair staff. If you’re interested in volunteering, we`d love to hear from you too!
