Participating in your Community Helps Build
the Future of Anchorage

Anchorage grows when more people take part. Every vote and volunteer hour
helps build a stronger, more united Alaska.

Participation is the quiet force that keeps a community alive. In Anchorage, only 25.33% of registered voters participated in the last municipal election. That number must grow for Anchorage to achieve its full potential. Every ballot cast, every hour volunteered, and every conversation about the future strengthens the foundations of local democracy, and we all must take part in it to build the future of our community.

Across Alaska, and according to data from the Foraker Group, 148,537 volunteers have already shown what engagement can achieve. Together, they have contributed more than five million hours of service to improve schools, support cultural programs, and expand community services. These efforts demonstrate that progress is not built solely by institutions. It is built by people who decide to take part, one small action at a time.

When citizens participate, they turn concern into movement. A neighbor who helps organize a clean-up day or a parent who joins a school board meeting is already changing the city’s rhythm. Their example encourages others to get involved, and little by little, that energy multiplies. The more people who step forward, the more Anchorage grows into a place shaped by shared responsibility and trust.

Participation also deepens the ties that hold a community together. When people listen to one another and act side by side, they build understanding. When they vote, volunteer, and exchange ideas, they reduce division and create spaces where decisions are made with empathy and common purpose. Communities that participate more do not just solve problems better; they become stronger and more united in facing them.

Anchorage has already proven that individual efforts can scale into collective transformation. Yet the work is far from finished. The goal now is to increase participation in all forms, especially voting. The more people take part, the clearer and more inclusive the city’s voice will be. The numbers are only the beginning of a larger story. 25.33% of voters and 148,537 volunteers represent both a foundation and an invitation. The path toward a more vibrant Anchorage starts when more people join in. Your vote, your time, and your presence matter. Participation is how communities grow, and the future begins when you decide to be part of it.
