People Mover Makes Schedule Changes
The People Mover bus service announced it will be making many changes to their operational system. Many routes will be affected as these new modifications are implemented. Some of the changes to come include bus stop closures, Holiday closures, and the elimination of in person assistance. If you frequently use the People Mover buses, here is the information you need to be prepared for the upcoming changes.
Unfortunately, People Mover will be reducing its service. The company has been facing many challenges throughout the years. Besides being short-staffed, it has been operating inefficiently for a long time. These service changes will be going into full effect on October 28, 2024, so plan your bus rides accordingly. We can already see some of the changes going into effect, and it’s important to prepare for certain bus stop closures and plan new routes. Something you may need to know before your next bus ride is that stop #3507, which is downtown, is closed for construction. Bus stop #1359 is to be used as a replacement. The Northern Lights Blvd. bus stop will be discontinued but you can use stop #0407 instead. This would be People Mover’s very first service reduction in about 10 years. These measures were put in place due to frequent cancellations of trips as a result of being short staffed. With so many trips and limited operators, the Municipality of Anchorage paid hundreds of thousands of overtime hours to their operators. This was not performable nor cost-effective and caused them to reduce the frequency of the buses coming to the stops. People Mover has also decided to discontinue in-person assistance from the ride guides. It is helpful for them to switch over to digital assistance which is much more convenient and cost effective. They will fully transition to the mobile app People Mover mTicket. The app has many important features and allows you to track your bus in real time. The app also keeps your ticket electronically, so you don’t have to worry about losing it. Having the option to buy tickets online allows for quick and easy trip planning. All things considered, People Mover is just making an effort to maintain their reliability, which just wasn’t possible with the way they were operating. The changes are necessary for them to keep running smoothly and improve their overall service for Anchorage commuters. Madison is a 10th grader who enjoys art, figure skating, biking, and science. |
