Sobrosol supports youth and young adults between the ages of 5 and 24 within BIPOC communities, which includes Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Asian, Polynesian, and other people of color.
Natye Briggs is the Executive Director of Sobrosol. She has worked in the youth services field for over 16 years. Her family was assigned to Anchorage, where she grew up and made her own home. She has four children. Her educational background includes a master’s degree in early childhood and special education, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration, as well as a minor in Early Childhood Education. “My motivation in life is to make sure our youth have at least one person in their life who believes in them and their dreams. No matter how small or big that dream is,” she said.
Briggs says that in 2018, Dan Alfalla founded Sobrosol Productions Inc., which featured amazing theater productions. “Dan originally formed Sobrosol to feature BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artists in the arts. In 2024, Sobrosol expanded its goals to strengthen Alaska’s BIPOC communities with opportunities, safe spaces, and development resources. Strengthening courage and professionalism in our communities through the arts on and off stage.”
Sobrosol supports youth and young adults between the ages of 5 and 24 within BIPOC communities, which includes Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Asian, Polynesian, and other people of color. “In 2024, Sobrosol served over 50 youth and young adults through our Youth Entrepreneurs program and Artist Enrichment Workshops.”
The Youth Entrepreneurs Program engages youth ages 5-17 in building the foundation within the art of entrepreneurship. Youth receive training that encompasses live performances for the public, self-investment, craft development, performance criticism, and talent showcases through entrepreneurial community markets. These community markets help youth retain learned entrepreneurial concepts and support the development of self-confidence.
The Artist Enrichment Workshops support youth and young adults with activities and experiences that explore various performing arts interests. Each workshop provides an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills, improve soft skills, build confidence, develop talents, and perform on stage. Workshops include mentoring and other support resources.
Briggs notes that they are planning a spring break workshop and two summer programs. Dates will be posted on Facebook.
