With the January 15 deadline for health insurance enrollment fast approaching, Alaskans are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the free, expert assistance offered by United Way of Anchorage’s healthcare navigators. These highly trained professionals are ready to guide residents through the often-confusing process of securing coverage through HealthCare.gov, ensuring that everyone has access to affordable healthcare options. Their expertise includes assisting with enrollment in Marketplace health insurance programs tailored to individual and family needs as well as Medicaid and Denali KidCare.
Navigators play a critical role in simplifying what can be an overwhelming process. They offer personalized guidance to help Alaskans understand their eligibility, compare plan options, and complete their applications correctly. As Jane Straight, Director of Health and Income Impact at United Way of Anchorage, explains, “A navigator can help you make sure you complete your application correctly and can help you understand the various plans offered so that you can select the best one for you and your family.” These advisors are dedicated to dispelling misconceptions and clarifying the choices available, ensuring that individuals can secure the best possible coverage for themselves and their loved ones.
Recognizing the diverse needs of Alaska’s population, United Way provides multilingual interpretation services in over 170 languages, making their assistance accessible to nearly everyone. For those who prefer in-person support, United Way hosts a series of walk-in enrollment sessions at the Loussac Library, located at 3600 Denali Street in Anchorage. These sessions are designed to provide easy access to one-on-one support, allowing residents to meet with navigators without needing to schedule an appointment. “The sessions at the library are an opportunity to walk in and meet with a navigator and get help completing your application,” Straight emphasizes. The upcoming library sessions are scheduled for December 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, and 19, and January 2, 7, 9, and 14, all from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.Don’t let the deadline pass by without securing your health coverage.
