Alaskans and Americans across our nation are hurting through no fault of their own. The COVID-19 pandemic has produced record joblessness, millions of small businesses have closed, our children can’t attend school and we can’t even hug our grand-children for fear of spreading the virus.
While President Trump has botched the nation’s response to the virus, resulting in 200,00+ deaths – more than any other country – Joe Biden has a plan to mount an effective response and Build Back Better America’s economy. That’s why I’m supporting Joe and Kamala Harris for President and Vice President in the Nov. 3 election.
Joe believes there’s no greater economic engine than the hard work and ingenuity of the American people. Even before the pandemic, the Trump administration pushed policies that rewarded wealth over work and corporations over working families. Sadly, Latino, Black, and other minority Americans were never welcomed as full participants in the economy.
Joe will change that by fixing existing weaknesses and inequalities and building a new American economy where every American enjoys a fair return for their work and an equal chance to get ahead.
In Alaska, that means enormous investments into basic infrastructure like roads, safe drinking water and expanded broadband. It means expanding access for new and small businesses and increasing the affordable housing supply. As the state most directly affected by climate change, Joe is committed to strategies that minimize risks affecting our communities. He will push sustainable and responsible resource development, step up investments in green energy and recommit America to the global fight against climate change.
President Trump’s assault on Latino dignity started on the very first day of his campaign. It has continued throughout his time in office in the treatment of Dreamers, underfunding schools, attacks on labor and the ability of workers to bargain for their worth.
President Biden will ensure everyone is treated with dignity, no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or zip code. He will make sure everyone has a chance to join the middle class.
One of Joe’s most significant decisions as a candidate was selecting his running mate. Kamala Harris is one of our nation’s most inspirational and effective leaders. She is the first Black and Indian American woman to represent California in the US Senate. Throughout her career, she has protected Obamacare, helped win marriage equality for all, and cracked down on crime as her state’s top prosecutor.
For much of his career in the US Senate, Joe was a friend of Alaska’s own senator, Ted Stevens. As President Obama’s vice president in 2010, he visited Alaska to honor Senator Stevens at his memorial service. Of our longest serving senator, Biden said: “No state has ever had a fiercer defender of that state’s way of life than Ted Stevens.” Joe knows Alaska and will be a president we can trust to put people before politics. Please join me in voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on November 3.
