These intrepid drivers have partnered with the Rotary Club to raise money for polio vaccinations, driving not just for the thrill, but for a noble cause.
The Rally the Globe Vintage and Classic Car Club, composed of experienced motorsport enthusiasts, has organized endurance category rallies that span the globe. Their mission is focused on reviving the spirit of classic car rallying while also giving back to society. In the words of the club’s founders, “We are building the next generation of the rally family who are the inheritors of a glorious tradition.” The current expedition, aptly named the “Alaska to Mexico Marathon,” is a grueling 12,000-kilometer journey that began in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 28th. The route takes participants through an astonishing array of landscapes, from snowy peaks in Alaska to the tropical shores of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. Along the way, they will encounter everything from snow-capped mountains and alpine scenery to rugged deserts, towering rock formations, and beautiful beaches. As the rally winds its way through various countries and states, the adventure includes navigating asphalt and gravel roads as well as some off-roading sections. However, participants are not encouraged to speed through the journey. In fact, they have a schedule of multiple stops where they must report to on particular dates and time. This helps to ensure the safety of racers as well as further develop the sense of community that has built around these events. The best part of this incredible adventure is that it’s not just about the thrill of the race; it’s about giving back to the community. The Rally the Globe Vintage and Classic Car Club has partnered with the Rotary Club to raise funds for polio vaccinations. In addition to the money they have already raised from the rally, they have raised $35,000 on their website and plan to continue raising more during their journey. While the rally is open to anyone, the cars participating must have been manufactured before 1976, with a special category for vehicles produced before the end of 1945.
