Another anniversary

Five years and counting! Alaska’s premier bilingual newspaper, Sol de Medianoche, celebrates five uninterrupted years of building connections between news stories and its readers. This Anchorage-based bilingual newspaper published by the Hispanic community has been distributed city-wide and over main points around the state of Alaska. When it was founded, the newspaper had the invaluable direction of an enthusiastic team of professionals who endowed each edition with the quality and merit necessary to take it to the heights it has reached. On May 5, 2021, Sol de Medianoche celebrated another anniversary.

Throughout the years, Sol de Medianoche’s mission has been to inform its readers about local, state, and national events ranging from social, cultural, health to civic activities.

The variety of topics it presents makes the newspaper a primary source of access to information. In Politics, for example, it reports on local, state, and national elections, candidates, upcoming bills, and important dates for voters to take action. Financial and economic information is made available to the public about business workshops, government aid to small and medium-sized enterprises, and programs to acquire housing. Sol de Medianoche offers current health information, especially on topics of relevance to the Latino community, in addition to timely and accurate pandemic education. The newspaper also provides information about events and artistic talent around the state and a section on “Culture, Art and Poetry” where you can read literary creations accompanied by works of contemporary art by local artists.

Sol de Medianoche’s mission has been to educate, provide service links, and create a platform for the community, both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking. Each article is presented in both languages, making it an inclusive newspaper and a unifying means in which a link is established without the language being a condition of access to its content. It should be noted that the newspaper is distributed free of charge in different locations in both Anchorage and other significant points of the state.

Happy Anniversary, Sol de Medianoche. Here is to many more celebrations!
