Telling Our Stories Writing classes for people 55 and older
by itzel yarger
There are so many stories, tales, poems in the Spanish-speaking community that need to be written and listened to because they are the memory of our families. The Anchorage Museum opens the opportunity for 20 people to take a creative writing class in Spanish. No previous experience is needed. During this class there will be an exploration through flavors, traditions and experiences. The class will have a community tone where there are no exams because the emphasis is on creativity without the academic pressure. In addition, it is an opportunity to meet other people in the community interested in writing.
Classes will be free and participants will receive a packet with materials. The Anchorage Museum offers these classes for people 55 and older and this is the first time the class is offered in Spanish, thanks to funding from Aroha Philanthropies. The class is under the direction of writers Itzel Zagal and Rosmery Baez. So, if you are interested in taking these classes register on the Museum´s website or by phone. Online classes will be via Zoom, Fridays from 10:30 am. to 12:00 from the comfort and safety of your home. The only thing you need is access to the internet and the desire to write your poems, stories, etc. Sign up and share this information with anyone you think might be interested in taking this class. Remember that they must be 55 years or older.
